International News 2016

In the latter part of the year, the SACF will be welcoming more international visitors. Friends of the SACF from Italy will be visiting Cape Town in September, wanting to explore care in SA and visit a few homes. The SAGE tour from Australia that was due to have taken place in February is re-scheduled for November.

IAHSA – the new Chair is Marcus Riley from Australia. I still serve on the Board of Directors as Immediate Past Chair.

COMMONAGE – The Commonwealth Association for the Ageing: accreditation with the Commonwealth Secretariat is in process. We are working towards preparing a report on Ageing in the Commonwealth to be presented at the next CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting) in 2018. It is now the subject of discussion with academic institutions keen to undertake the research and with potential funding partners.

CommonAge, of which I am proud to be a director, has teamed up with SAGE Study Tours to offer an opportunity to experience innovative service developments as well as the many delights on offer to visitors to South Australia.

SAGE and CommonAge are working together on their first intra country Australian SAGE Tour taking place in South Australia on 12-20 June 2016.  It is timed to finish in time for those going to the IFA conference in Brisbane, Queensland 21 -23 June.

SAGE has been successfully running international aged care tours for 10 year now and the industry has had the benefit of these international experiences. It is aimed at CEOs, board members and executives.  Participants will see best practice South Australian aged care in all its forms, network with sector leaders throughout the tour and spend quality time with renowned industry experts.
